Bioluminescence: we might have been too blind too see it

A Talk by Maria Rutkowska (student, Akademeia High School)

About this Talk

Have you ever wondered about what bioluminescence truly is? Have your dreamt about seeing the stars in our cities again? What really are the applications of this phenomenon? In this session, you will learn about what bioluminescence is, how scientists are using it - and how I am researching it! It should be a thought-provoking presentation, that will open your eyes to the possibilities of something that may have seemed obvious. This session was inspired by a project I have been working on since the beginnings of my high school career; apart from covering the basic knowledge behind bioluminescence and the newest advances in this field, I am planning to take you along and describe my success in the field. I will be talking about my prototype of a bioluminescence lamp - "Pyrocystix". Thus, I invite you to unravel the wonders of this field with me!
